Ken and Virginia Schaefer started working together in 1984 with Schaefer Financial Services. Ken was doing financial planning and insurance and Virginia owned Schaefer and Associates, a real estate company. Through Ken's contacts in financial planning came the introduction of correspondent lending. This was brand new in New Hampshire but was being done in several states. With 7 years of banking experience and a few of real estate, it seemed like a natural fit. It didn't take long to realize that the mortgage lending part of the business was the piece they liked the best causing them to change the company focus and company name to Schaefer Mortgage Corp.

Schaefer Mortgage Corp. started as two people and now employs 58, and is licensed in New Hampshire , Maine , Massachusetts , Rhode Island , South Carolina , and Florida. Schaefer Mortgage Corp. has received several awards over the years such as "Derry Chamber Business of the Year" twice and the Blue Chip Enterprise Award for New Hampshire . Virginia was named "Volunteer of the Year in 2003 for the Greater Manchester Family YMCA. Ginny has worked tirelessly for several years helping to bring the YMCA to Londonderry . She has worked on the Board of Directors as well as Chairperson at the Nutfield YMCA in North Londonderry . Schaefer Mortgage Corp. held its 14th Annual Charity Golf Tournament this August raising thousands to be donated to the Nutfield YMCA Baseball Field Fund. This, together with last years proceeds have totaled $29,800 dollars for the field. We are hoping to begin construction next fall, subject to all approvals. "If there is any one thing that we could contribute our success to, it would be having the ability to hire great people that always helped to move us forward. We have many people here that have been here for more than 10 years and our very first hire in 1986, Christine A. Lynch, still works here part time." Schaefer Mortgage Corp. has offices in Londonderry, Manchester, Nashua, and Fort Myers Florida .
